Eric Foner is an American historian. He is famous for writing on American political history as well as the early history of the Republican Party and all.
Eric Foner’s Early Life and Education
He was born on 7 February 1943, in New York City, New York, USA to Jewish parents. His father, Jack D. Forner was a historian and his mother Liza Forner was a high school teacher. Eric grew up with his brother Thomas Foner. He belongs to a Jewish background and holds an American nationality.
Likewise, he graduated from Long Beach High School. Furthermore, he attended Columbia University where he studied physics before switching his major to history. The following year, he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts.
Eric Foner’s Professional Life
Eric Foner is a historian who leads a contemporary historian of the Reconstruction period and has written more than ten books on Reconstruction: America’s Unfinished Revolution, 1863-1877. He is also a member of the Columbia University Department of History since 1982. He is known as the most frequently cited author on the college’s syllabus for history courses.
Eric Foner’s Personal Life
Eric Foner is a married man. He tied his knots with fellow historian Lynn Garafola. The pair walked down the aisle in 1980 in a holy ceremony. From their marriage, they have a daughter. However, they have not disclosed much about her identity. He is living a happy and very blessed life with his Garafola.
Prior to marrying Lynn, he tied his knots with a screenwriter Naomi Achs. The couple tied their knots in 1965. However, their marriage life could not last for a very long time. After spending 12 years together as a wedded couple, they separated in 1977. Both of them moved on with their own lives after the divorce. They also did not have any babies together.
