David Goggins is an American ultramarathon runner, ultra-distance cyclist, and triathlete. He is the retired U.S. Navy Seal and is also a public speaker.
David Goggins’ Early Life and Education:
He was conceived on February 17, 1975, in Buffalo, New York, USA. He is the son of his father Trunnis Goggins and his mother Jackie Goggins. David grew up in Williamsville, New York along with his brother Trunnis Goggins Jr. While growing up, he faced a lot of racism being one of the few African-Americans in his school. He ran away from home with his mother after his father’s constant abuse towards them.
Talking about his academics, he has not disclosed much about his educational background. However, in 2004, he graduated from Army Ranger School and also received the “Top Enlisted Man” award.
David Goggins’ Professional Life:
Goggins applied to get in the United States Air Force Pararescue. He got accepted after failing his ASVAB twice. During his training, he was diagnosed with sickle cell trait and was removed from his training. He then completed with the United States Air Force Tactical Air Control Party. There, he worked for five years from 1994 to 1999.
In 2001, he graduated from BUD/S training with Clas 235 in 2001 assigning to SEAL Team 5. Goggins worked in the military for 20 years serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. After many of his friends died in Afghanistan during Operation Red Wings in 2005, he began long-distance running in with the goal of raising money for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. It is an organization that gives scholarships to the children of fallen operation soldiers.
He raised $2 Million for the organization. Then, he entered the San Diego One Day, a 24-hour ultramarathon. He ran 101 miles in 19 hours and 6 minutes. Eventually, in 2006 Badwater-135 he finished in 5th place. Three months later, he competed in the Ultraman World Championships Triathlon in Hawaii and secured the second position. Likewise, he has run in many championships. Also, has set a record at the 48-hour national championships. He beat the previous record by 20 miles with a distance traveled of 203.5 miles.
