He was born on 28 December 1954, in Mount Vernon, New York, USA. He is the son of an ordained Pentecostal minister Hayes Washington Sr. and a beauty parlour owner and operator Lennis Lowe. His parents separated when he was only fourteen and grew up in his hometown Mount Vernon. He belongs to African-American ethnic background and his star symbol is Capricorn.
