Doc Rivers is a professional basketball player and presents a basketball coach. He is known as a player of the Los Angeles Clippers.
Doc Rivers’ Early Life and Education:
He was born on October 13, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He is the son of Grady Rivers and Betty Rivers. Doc grew up with his brother Grady Rivers Jr. Moreover, He holds an American nationality and belongs to the African-American heritage.
Regarding his academics, he completed high school at Proviso East High School. Later, he attended Marquette University where he played football for three years. He finally graduated in 1983.
Doc Rivers’ Professional Life:
Doc Rovers started playing basketball as a defense at Marquette University. In 1982, he represented the U.S. in the FIBA World Championship and won the silver medal. Rivers was then drafted in the 1983 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks. He spent seven seasons in Atlanta. After that, he played for the Los Angeles Clippers for a year and the next two years in New York Knicks. Finally, he played for the San Antonio Spurs from 1994 to 1996 and announced his retirement. He then worked as an on-air analyst for NBA games on Tuner Sports television.
Eventually, in 1999, he started his coaching career with Ornaldo Magic coaching for over four NBA seasons. In 2000, he won the Coach of the Year award. However, in 2003, he was fired after a 1-10 start to the season. Likewise, Boston Celtics hired him as their head coach in 2004. However, he was criticized by the media for his coaching style. He coached the team from 2004 to 2013 before joining Los Angeles Clippers. He became the senior vice president of basketball operations.
Rivers worked with the team for seven years before joining the Philadelphia 76ers in 2020 as a head coach. As of now, he is working as the coach for the Philadelphia 76ers.
