He was born on March 15, 1959, in Riihimaki, Finland. His father Oiva Harjola, a chief physician, and his mother Liisa Koskiluoma, a nurse. He was raised along with his two siblings, Veli-Pekka Harjola and Tuire Harjola. Though, there is not much information regarding his childhood life. After their divorce, Geena went on to marry American Dr. Reza Jarrahy.
